Vietnam and Sweden enhance cooperation in green development

TN&MTOn February 20, in Hanoi, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy met with Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam Johan Ndisi for a courtesy meeting. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in green development and the circular economy, to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

Also attending were Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Cong Thanh, Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People’s Committee Pham Anh Tuan, representatives from the Ministry’s specialized units, and experts from the Swedish Embassy in Vietnam.

Strengthening the strategic partnership

During the meeting, Ambassador Johan Ndisi emphasized the longstanding cooperation between Vietnam and Sweden, which has recently been elevated to a strategic partnership. This strong foundation allows both countries to expand cooperation across multiple sectors, with sustainable development as a key priority.

The Ambassador highlighted that numerous Swedish companies have invested in Vietnam, particularly in technology, digital transformation, and green development. He expressed hope that both sides would continue to leverage their potential for cooperation and seize new opportunities to promote effective investment.

Minister Do Duc Duy affirmed that Vietnam is vigorously implementing a green transition strategy and circular economy development, prioritizing the application of advanced technologies to reduce emissions, recycle waste, and optimize resources. The Vietnamese government is also improving the legal framework to facilitate sustainable development projects. The Minister expressed his desire for Swedish businesses, through the Swedish Embassy, to actively engage in this process and introduce cutting-edge technologies, particularly in renewable energy, recycling, and green technology.

Promoting strategic investment in the circular economy

A key topic of discussion was SYRE Group’s investment plans in Vietnam. According to Ambassador Johan Ndisi and Binh Dinh Provincial Chairman Pham Anh Tuan, the group is pursuing a decarbonization strategy and waste reduction in the textile industry. It aims to reduce 15 million tons of CO2 equivalent over the next decade by advancing circular polyester fiber production.

Minister Do Duc Duy highly appreciated the group’s vision and pledged to create favorable conditions for the realization of cooperation projects. He assigned Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh and the Ministry’s specialized units to continue working with Swedish partners to share experiences, refine legal mechanisms, and support project implementation in the near future.

Minister Do Duc Duy expressed his hope that Ambassador Johan Ndisi would continue serving as a vital bridge, strengthening cooperation not only between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Swedish partners but also across various sectors of both countries.

He reaffirmed that Vietnam-Sweden cooperation in green development would yield economic benefits while contributing meaningfully to sustainable development goals, paving the way for a greener, more prosperous future for both nations.
