Lam Vien square: The stunning symbol of Dalat, the city of a thousand flowers
12/11/2024TN&MTLocated in the heart of Dalat, Lam Vien square is not only a unique architectural masterpiece but also a must-visit destination for anyone coming to this beautiful highland city.
Built from 2009 and completed in 2016, this modern square covers an expansive area of over 70,000 square meters, with its front facing the serene Xuan Huong lake. This landmark was constructed with an impressive budget of 681 billion VND (nearly 30 million USD) and has the capacity to hold around 60,000 people – approximately 1.5 times the capacity of My Dinh national stadium in Hanoi.
Artichoke Flower Bud
One of the square’s most iconic features is the massive Artichoke Flower Bud, a 15-meter-tall sculpture made of spiraling steel frames covered with yellow and green glass panels, representing the vibrant petals of the artichoke flower. This structure serves as a bright, unforgettable symbol of the Dalat landscape and the city’s unique vegetation.
The Giant Wild Sunflower
Alongside the Artichoke Bud stands the Giant Wild Sunflower, a true piece of art that captures visitors' attention with its grandeur and vibrant beauty. This 20-meter-high sculpture spans an area of 1,200 square meters and is designed to resemble a towering wild sunflower in full bloom. Inside, it houses a modern art space with seating for 1,500 people, ideal for cultural performances, conferences, and events. The design, with its tilted angles and smooth curves, evokes the petals of the wild sunflower and creates a striking visual from every viewpoint within the square.
Unlike some other tourist attractions, Lam Vien Square is always open to visitors free of charge for sightseeing and photography
In addition to these symbolic structures, Lam Vien square is a lively gathering spot featuring an artistic water fountain system, colorful flower beds, and plenty of open space for recreation. Visitors can enjoy various outdoor activities here, such as roller skating and electric car rides. The square is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., with free admission for all.
Besides enjoying the beauty of the square, visitors can also take part in activities such as roller skating, riding electric cars, watching water fountain performances, flying kites, and savoring local food at nearby eateries
To fully appreciate the charm of Lam Vien square, it is best to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon. At sunrise, the gentle sunlight brightens the cool Dalat atmosphere, while at sunset, the square transforms with a romantic glow as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a peaceful, magical light over the entire area.
