Attendees included national and international scientists, investors, local government officials, entrepreneurs, and media representatives. Lam Dong’s unique potential for green growth
Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province delivering opening speech
In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province, emphasized Lam Dong’s natural and cultural advantages that uniquely position it for sustainable growth. He highlighted that Lam Dong’s diverse terrain, mild climate, rich ecosystems, and scenic landscapes—particularly Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park, which spans over 70,000 hectares within the Lang Biang Biosphere Reserve—place it among Vietnam’s four largest biodiversity centers, home to thousands of flora and fauna species with rare genetic resources. Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai pointed out how these environmental assets have enabled Lam Dong to lead the way in green economic development, with the province achieving a forest coverage rate of 54.37% in 2023. This strong forest cover gives Lam Dong a valuable opportunity to participate in the growing carbon credit market. The province has also progressed in high-tech agriculture, shifting its focus toward green and organic farming.
Additionally, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai noted the unique cultural heritage of Lam Dong’s ethnic communities, exemplified by the UNESCO-recognized Space of Gong Culture, which enhances the province’s appeal for eco-tourism, cultural tourism, and community tourism. He explained that the swift global advances in science, technology, and innovation are creating complex, multi-dimensional impacts, while urbanization and industrialization are raising demands for infrastructure, housing, healthcare, education, and jobs. He acknowledged that Lam Dong faces significant challenges to its sustainable development goals, especially concerning climate change, natural disasters, and pollution. Expressing support for investors, he remarked, “Lam Dong always welcomes investors and pledges to facilitate all necessary conditions to ensure the success of investment projects in accordance with the law. This is the purpose and meaning of today’s Investment Forum.”
Investment projects and strategic goals for a green future
Dr. Pham S., Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee, presented the province’s comprehensive socio-economic development strategy, focused on a transition toward sustainability with a Net-Zero target by 2050. This ambitious roadmap seeks to leverage the province’s green assets and target investments in sectors such as agricultural processing, healthcare, education, tourism, and infrastructure, particularly in transportation.
