One of the key topics of discussion was enhancing cooperation under the Paris Agreement on climate change, particularly Article 6, which involves the exchange of greenhouse gas emission reduction outcomes. Vietnam and Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2022, laying a crucial foundation for specific agreements in the future. Minister Do Duc Duy emphasized that Vietnam is actively implementing initiatives to fulfill its climate commitments under COP29, with Singapore playing a vital role in this effort.
In addition to climate cooperation, both sides expressed strong interest in renewable energy, particularly offshore wind power. Singapore aims to import 4GW of clean electricity from the region by 2035, and Vietnam is considered a key partner in this strategy. The collaboration between the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and Singapore’s Sembcorp serves as a prime example of this bilateral connection.
Minister Do Duc Duy affirmed that, with Vietnam’s National Assembly having passed the Electricity Law, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will continue to conduct research and assessments on offshore wind energy potential as a basis for future development projects. Promoting renewable energy will not only help Vietnam achieve its emission reduction goals but also contribute to environmental protection and sustainable marine economic development.

He also highlighted that, following the merger of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, collaboration opportunities between the two countries would expand further, covering areas such as the circular economy, energy security, and food security.
With a strong foundation of collaboration, Vietnam and Singapore continue to affirm their strategic partnership, working together towards a sustainable future and addressing global challenges.
