Vietnam welcomes Azerbaijan as host of COP29 from November 11 to 22, 2024. Minister Dang Quoc Khanh highlighted that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's speech at COP28 affirmed Vietnam's determination to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. He also called for enhanced cooperation and stressed the importance of developed countries continuing to support developing nations, particularly in terms of finance and technology transfer, to enable them to effectively adapt to climate change and transition to renewable energy sources.

At COP29, Vietnam asserts that governments must establish new climate finance targets reflecting the scale and urgency of climate challenges. Additionally, there is a need to enhance climate ambition in nationally determined contributions (NDCs) for the 2025-2035 period across all economies, addressing all greenhouse gases and fully aligning with the 1.5°C temperature limit.
