19/12/2024TN&MTOn December 19, 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), Minister Do Duc Duy held a meeting with Mr. Andrew Goledzinowski, the Australian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam. During the meeting, Minister Do Duc Duy presented the Medal for the Cause of Natural Resources and Environment to Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski in recognition of his significant contributions to fostering bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of natural resources and environmental protection.

The meeting was attended by Minister Do Duc Duy and senior representatives from MONRE, including Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation; Mr. Tang The Cuong, Director General of the Department of Climate Change; and other key leaders. On the Australian side, notable participants included Ms. Cecilia Brennan, Economic Counsellor, and Ms. Bernadette Thompson, First Secretary (Economic) at the Australian Embassy in Vietnam.
During his tenure in Vietnam, Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski actively contributed to the development of Vietnam-Australia relations in the areas of natural resources and the environment. A key milestone was his support for MONRE in finalizing and submitting the Law on Geology and Minerals to the Vietnamese National Assembly for approval.
Minister Do Duc Duy expressed his gratitude and anticipation for continued collaboration with the Australian Government in training programs, sharing management experiences, and applying modern technologies to sustainably exploit mineral resources in Vietnam.

Cooperation in the marine and island sectors between Vietnam and Australia has also yielded significant achievements. Minister Do Duc Duy praised Australia's capacity-building programs, especially those promoting the development of a blue ocean economy and marine data management. He proposed that both sides work together to draft a 2025 action plan, focusing on offshore wind energy, ocean pollution reduction, and marine ecosystem conservation.
Addressing climate change, Minister Do Duc Duy announced that Vietnam had completed a draft amendment to Decree No. 06/2022/NĐ-CP concerning carbon transactions. He expressed his hope for Australia’s support in developing a carbon market, conducting greenhouse gas inventories, and building a carbon credit management system. Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski affirmed Australia’s commitment to supporting Vietnam in these efforts, contributing to a sustainable future.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski expressed his gratitude for being awarded the Medal for the Cause of Natural Resources and Environment. He emphasized that the friendly cooperation between Vietnam and Australia serves as a foundation for shared achievements. He also expressed his belief that renewable energy and mineral processing would become new pillars of bilateral cooperation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Do Duc Duy extended his best wishes to the Ambassador and his family. He reaffirmed that MONRE would remain a reliable partner, ready to cooperate in elevating the relationship between the two nations to new heights.
