
Awarding commemorative medal to the World Bank’s Country Director for Vietnam
01/04/2024TN&MTOn March 29th, the Medal "For the cause of natural resources and environment" was presented by Minister Dang Quoc Khanh to Country Director for Vietnam at the World Bank (WB) Carolyn Turk, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Vietnam's environmental and natural resource sector.

During the ceremony, Ms. Carolyn Turk said that the WB and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) recently have had close cooperation in developing policies, specific programs and projects related to environmental protection and climate change adaptation.
With Vietnam's current goals of rapid and sustainable development, the role of the MONRE will be crucial not only in formulating policies but also addressing pressing issues such as saltwater intrusion, natural disasters, droughts, plastic pollution, deteriorating air quality, as well as ongoing efforts such as restoring polluted rivers, sustainable development of the Mekong Delta, carbon market establishment, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and more. Therefore, the WB commits to continuing to accompany the MONRE in achieving sustainable development goals.

Minister Dang Quoc Khanh highly appreciated the effective support and cooperation of the WB in this field. He affirmed that the WB has always been a leading international organization, demonstrating strong international commitments to support Vietnam's economic development alongside environmental protection.
It is understood that starting from April 2024, Ms. Carolyn Turk will assume new positions in Indonesia and East Timor. Minister Dang Quoc Khanh hoped that in her new capacity, she will make significant contributions to the sustainable development of both Indonesia and East Timor - two “close brothers” of Vietnam within the ASEAN; as well as continuing to support Vietnam in future bilateral or regional cooperation.
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh affirmed that the WB is always at the forefront of international organizations, demonstrating strong international commitments to support Vietnam's economic development alongside environmental protection.
According to Minister Dang Quoc Khanh, the MONRE is currently implementing projects with the WB on carbon markets, sustainable development of the Mekong Delta, and land management. In addition, there are activities in areas such as water resources management, land management, energy transition, and sustainable development of the Mekong Delta. Therefore, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh suggested Ms. Carolyn Turk to instruct WB officials to continue closely coordinating with units of the MONRE to address existing challenges and accelerate project implementation progress together.
To express gratitude for her contributions and those of the WB team in Vietnam, on behalf of the MONRE, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh respectfully presented Ms. Carolyn Turk with the Medal "For the Cause of Natural Resources and Environment".

In appreciation of the sentiments expressed by the MONRE, Ms. Carolyn Turk affirmed that the WB highly values the close cooperation relationship with the Ministry.
