According to Minister Dang Quoc Khanh, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) functions as a multifaceted management entity overseeing nine sectors, of which nature conservation and climate change mitigation are pivotal in the current global landscape.

Vietnam welcomes Azerbaijan as host of COP29 from November 11 to 22, 2024. Given the critical role of COP conferences in global climate change response, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh trusted COP29 in Azerbaijan will lead stronger actions on climate adaptation and environmental protection, crucial in global climate response.

As the host of COP29, Azerbaijan will introduce initiatives, proposals, and conference programs to ensure a successful Climate Change Summit. Therefore, Ambassador Sovgi Kamal Oglu Mehdizade hoped to gain insights and experiences from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment - the advisory agency to the Government of Vietnam on climate change adaptation and environmental activities - to set future target directions.

Minister Dang Quoc Khanh highlighted that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's speech at COP28 affirmed Vietnam's determination to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. He also called for enhanced cooperation and stressed the importance of developed countries continuing to support developing nations, particularly in terms of finance and technology transfer, to enable them to effectively adapt to climate change and transition to renewable energy sources.

At COP29, Vietnam asserts that governments must establish new climate finance targets reflecting the scale and urgency of climate challenges. Additionally, there is a need to enhance climate ambition in nationally determined contributions (NDCs) for the 2025-2035 period across all economies, addressing all greenhouse gases and fully aligning with the 1.5°C temperature limit.
