Minister Dang Quoc Khanh meets and works with the u.s. ambassador to Viet Nam

TN&MTOn September 5th, Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Đặng Quốc Khánh, had a meeting and working session with Mr. Marc E. Knapper, the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam. Both sides exchanged views on cooperation programs in the fields of natural resources, environment, and climate."

During the discussion with Ambassador Marc E. Knapper, Minister Đặng Quốc Khánh expressed his hope that with Ambassador Knapper's experience from working in various Asian countries, including Vietnam, as well as his distinguished achievements and honors in the field of U.S. diplomacy, the Ambassador would promote cooperation between Vietnam and the United States across multiple sectors, including natural resources, environment and climate.

In recent times, the United States has engaged in various collaborative activities and provided support to agencies under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, particularly in areas related to pollution reduction, especially plastic pollution, climate change, and water resources. Minister Đặng Quốc Khánh expressed his hope that following Ambassador Knapper's visit and discussions, cooperation between the two sides would further expand and be enhanced, especially in the implementation of COP26 outcomes and environmental protection efforts.

Ambassador Marc E. Knapper discussed the areas of cooperation between Vietnam and the United States in preparation for the official visit of U.S. President Joe Biden, scheduled for the upcoming days (September 10-11, 2023).

Minister Đặng Quốc Khánh and Ambassador Marc E. Knapper are confident that this important visit by President Biden will further deepen the Vietnam-U.S. relationship, fostering a stable, substantive, and long-term partnership across all areas, particularly in resource and environmental cooperation. This visit is expected to contribute to maintaining cooperation and addressing global environmental issues while ensuring the development of both countries.

An overview of the working session

In the discussion with Minister Đặng Quốc Khánh, Ambassador Marc E. Knapper expressed the desire for the United States and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) to strengthen their cooperation in the upcoming time with a new, integrated approach, addressing various issues related to climate change and the environment.

Additionally, they discussed advancing the implementation of pollution reduction projects and plastic pollution action projects to contribute to solving environmental pollution and plastic waste management issues. Furthermore, there is a focus on enhancing cooperation in areas with untapped potential such as mineral exploitation, renewable energy development, sustainable water resource management and collaboration on joint research activities and specific projects.

 

Minister Đặng Quốc Khánh acknowledged Ambassador Marc E. Knapper's insights and suggested that the United States closely coordinate with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and relevant agencies to provide support in terms of policies and financial resources for the implementation of collaborative programs and international commitments.

Minister Đặng Quốc Khánh expressed confidence that with Ambassador Marc E. Knapper's understanding and affection for Vietnam, he would have a successful tenure in Vietnam, further deepening the relationship between the two nations in general and enhancing U.S.-Vietnam cooperation in the field of natural resources and the environment in particular.
