Estabishment of the institute of environmental, marine, and island sciences

TN&MTOn July 7, 2023, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government, Mr. Tran Hong Ha, signed Decision No. 815/QD-TTg to establish the Institute of Environmental, Marine, and Island Sciences under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The Institute of Environmental, Marine, and Island Sciences was formed through the reorganization of the Institute of Environmental Sciences under the General Department of Environment and the Institute of Marine and Island Research under the former General Department of Vietnam Sea and Islands.

This newly established institute has a legal personality, a seal, and a separate account. Its headquarters are located in Hanoi.

The Institute of Environmental, Marine, and Island Sciences is a public non-business unit and is partially self-funded regularly.

The Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will specify the functions, tasks, powers, and organizational structure of the Institute of Environmental, Marine, and Island Sciences.

The main functions of this institute include conducting fundamental and applied research, and developing technology related to the environment, marine, and island areas to serve the state management of the environment, marine, and island sectors. It will also provide scientific and technological services in these fields and offer doctoral-level training in various disciplines to contribute to the sustainable development of the country in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0). Furthermore, it will play a role in effectively implementing the Laws on Environmental Protection, Biodiversity, and Marine and Island Resources and Environment.
