Comrade Tran Hong Thai elected as Chairman of Lam Dong People’s Committee

TN&MTOn August 23, during the 17th session (special session) of the 10th Lam Dong Provincial People's Council, comrade Tran Hong Thai, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, was elected Chairman of the Lam Dong People’s Committee.

Earlier, at the conference on the Implementation of Decisions by the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee regarding personnel work, Deputy Head of the Organization Commission of the CPV Central Committee, Phan Thang An, announced the decision of the Secretariat to transfer and appoint comrade Tran Hong Thai to the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee, and the position of Deputy Secretary of the Lam Dong Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.

In his speech accepting the position, the newly appointed Chairman of the Lam Dong People’s Committee, Tran Hong Thai, expressed his honor in being entrusted by the Secretariat of the CPV Central Committee and the Central Organization Commission with this new responsibility. He also expressed his gratitude to the Party, government, and people of Lam Dong for their support, allowing him to contribute and become a member of the Lam Dong community and the city of Da Lat.

During the conference, comrade Tran Hong Thai pledged to learn, remain open-minded, dedicate himself fully to the task, quickly adapt to his new role, build upon the province's recent socio-economic achievements, and continue collaborating with the Standing Committee and the Executive Committee for the development of Lam Dong.

Born in 1974 in Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Lam Dong People’s Committee Tran Hong Thai holds the academic titles of Professor and Doctor. He graduated from university in the Russian Federation and defended his doctoral thesis in Earth Sciences and Mathematics at Heidelberg University in Germany. He previously held the position of General Director of the General Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment). In October 2023, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Science and Technology.

Additionally, at the same 17th special session, the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Council also elected Ms. Pham Thi Phuc, Head of the Mass Mobilization Committee of the Lam Dong Party Committee, as Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council. Ms. Pham Thi Phuc, 47 years old, from Quang Ngai province, previously held positions as Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Secretary of the Lam Ha District Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Labor Confederation, Deputy Head, and then Head of the Mass Mobilization Commission of the Provincial Party Committee.

The Lam Dong Provincial People’s Council also dismissed Mr. Nguyen Khac Binh from his position as Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council following his transfer to a new role in the Provincial Party Committee’s Inspection Commission.
