The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in areas such as climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and environmental protection. Key projects like VN-SIPA and AMUSE were highlighted as pivotal initiatives aimed at improving living environments, strengthening Vietnam’s capacity in natural resource management, and supporting sustainable development.

Sustainable development through strategic climate projects

Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh emphasized the critical role of collaborative projects with GIZ, particularly the Vietnam Support for Implementation of the Paris Agreement (VN-SIPA). This strategic project aims to assist Vietnam in fulfilling its international climate commitments through activities that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build adaptive capacities against climate change. According to the Deputy Minister, these efforts will help establish a sustainable foundation for natural resource management and achieve green development goals.

Under the VN-SIPA Phase II, led by the Climate Change Department, GIZ is providing essential support to enhance Vietnam’s national capacity to effectively respond to climate change. Ms. Michaela Baur highlighted that this initiative not only benefits the environment but also opens opportunities for Vietnam to access advanced green technologies. Additionally, the project focuses on improving the capabilities of central and local agencies in implementing climate policies effectively. Ms. Baur underscored the importance of sharing international experiences to help Vietnam swiftly adopt innovative practices in climate action.

Urban waste management: Advancing public health and environmental protection

In the face of rapid urbanization, waste management has become a top priority for Vietnam’s cities. To address this, GIZ is supporting the implementation of the Urban Solid Waste Management Strengthening Project in ASEAN countries (AMUSE), led by the Environmental Pollution Control Department. Ms. Michaela Baur expressed optimism that the AMUSE project will enable Vietnam to develop efficient waste management systems, thereby minimizing the adverse effects of environmental pollution on public health and ecosystems. The project is expected to introduce advanced solutions, helping Vietnam tackle urban waste challenges and reduce environmental stress.
